Opinion

1. What is your opinion about using blogs to teach "writing" in EFL classrooms?

I think that using blogs is a good and interactive way of teaching writing to EFL students. It improves your grammar and helps you put into practise everything that you know about English.

2. Do you like working using blogs?
Yes, very much. This was the very first time I created a blog to work on in a subject. I really enjoyed it.

3. What are some of the advantages of using blogs?
I think that one of the most important advantages of using blogs is that you can show your friends pieces of writing you’ve created by your own. Through this, you show them part of one’s life, feelings and emotions.

4. What are some of the disadvantages?
A very pitiful disadvantage is plagiarism. Students may copy (steal) some other student’s work committing plagiarism.

5. Do you plan to use blogs in the future?
They seem to be a good way of teaching writing to your students. If you want to teach them anything but writing you could just “adapt” the bloggs for the pourpose you want.

Do you have any suggestions to improve these "lab sessions"? or was everything all right?
No, I think you used this tool in the best way you could’ve done it!

Why is Writing important for an EFL teacher?

Why is Writing important for an EFL teacher? What is the best way to teach writing to children? to teenagers? ( provide examples and references)

...>It is important because writing helps you improve your grammar and everything you’ve learnt during your years of study.
Writing journals is a very good way of teaching children and teenagers to write. Teaching your children to write journals is largely a matter of habit. If you write in a journal, and your children see you do it, little ones will want to do the same thing. Encourage this. Some of the questions you may ask them to answer are:
* What was the best thing about today?
* What was the worst thing about today?
* What did you learn today?
* What did you eat today?, and things like that.

::::::::............::::::::::.............::::::::

“The Lady with the Watch has always been in love with a man who lives in the forest. His gift is speed. He runs through the forest faster than wind. The Lady with the Watch has seen him just a couple times but fell deeply in love since the first time she saw him. Her best friend is a fairy called Shaiah. As Shaiah lives in the forest as well, she can see the man more often than The Lady with the Watch. Every time Shaiah sees him advises her friend The Lady with the Watch to make the time stop and so that she can look at him longer and conquer his heart just by making him look into her eyes. There is only one thing that has to be taken into account and that is that if The Lady with the Watch wants the man to speed down or simply make him stop, the man has to be in front of her. There are only two creatures in the entire world that are not affected by The Lady with the Watch’s power. Those creatures are Shaiah and a Skruntt. The Skruntt knows that if The Lady with the Watch speeds the Speed man down, he will be in big troubles because both, The Lady with the Watch and the Speed man, have outstanding powers so the Skruntt has to avoid The Lady with the Watch from seeing the Speed man. Shaiah is the only one who can defeat the Skruntt by pouring on him some seeds' water that causes him to sleep deeply. One day, there were the two friends in the forest, The Lady with the Watch and Shaiah, when suddenly appears the Speed man and The Lady with the Watch stopped time and the Speed man stopped. When The Lady with the Watch was getting closer him the Skruntt comes from the ground, takes the Speed man and runs off in the forest. It all happened so fast that Shaiah had not time as to pour on him the seeds' water. From that moment on the Skruntt became The Lady with the Watch’s enemy. Time passed and though she had many opportunities to make the Speed man stop she never could. One day the opportunity to make the Speed man stop arrived, Shaiah saw the Skruntt hidden between the ground and the understory layer so she poured the seeds' water on him and fell asleep very deeply. The Lady with the Watch was very near to make the Speed man look into her eyes when for a silly mistake she stumbles with a root, falls to the ground and hits her Master watch on a rock cracking it into thousands of small pieces uncharming the Speed man. Because of that sad accident she became the saddest woman of the world for having lost both, her Master watch and the man of her dreams.”

What lonelyness really means

Jane is a girl who was born in Telluride, a city that's located in Colorado. She spent all the early years of her life studying in her city. There, was only one primary school and one high school as well. All her classmates and teachers realised from the very beginning that Jane was a very quiet and shy girl. Her marks were always better than her classmates'. As usual, there were people in her class that didn't like her and were always bothering her. Jane suffered a lot. She could not understand why in the world her classmates were bad with her. She was the friendliest in her class and all people could see that. Jane's parents raise sheep and cultivate the land in order to have money. Jane is the eldest of 5 children and has to care after them when her parents are working. Her mum and dad go every week to the city's fair where they sell their products. Anne is the daughter of the man who's got more money than any ohter person in the whole Telluride city. Anne is Jane's classmates and is the "leader" of those people who bug Jane. Jane was finishing her last year of high school. She and her parents had talked thousands of times about Jane's palnnes of studying in the University of Utah. Her parents supperted her dream and the last two years worked harder than ever to make Jane her dream come true. Jane finished high school with the best mark in her school's history. As everybody in her town knew about her dream, they gathered some money to help her afford the trip to Utah. Everything was ready and in two more days Jane's life was changing radically. The wait of those days was longest wait in her life. Finally the day arrived. That day she took a bus to Utah that lasted long hours. The trip began in the very morning and finished very late. When she got to Utah, a friend of her parents was waiting for her. The next day she had to got go to the University to begin the initial process. The next week started classes. Jane was very afraid. It was her first time in olace surrounded by people she had never seen before. That same day she made 3 friends who helped her in her new life. One of them had to travel to his city because her mother suffered an accident and never came back. One day Jane was talking a walk on the campus of her University when suddenly saw someone she knew. It was Anne, her enemy, she was with Jane's friends and all of them were talking and laughing at Jane. From that moment on, things changed in their relation with her and the friendship they had broke. For the very first time she knew what lonelyness really means.

Scientists create glow-in-the-dark cats

I found this piece of news quite interesting because it is completely outstanding to realise how fast is science evolving. Years ago, it was very exciting when scientists first cloned a sheep. Years later they tried to clone humans but it was "unethic" and it was supposed that they have cloned any. Now they do not just clone animals but they modify their genes as well!

In South Korea, scientists cloned a couple of cats and they also modify some genes that have got fluorescence protein. This modification makes the cats glow in the dark when exposed to ultraviolet light. It is unlikely that this "new race" would soon come to pet stores. Debates about the ethics is broad because they are transgenic animals. Scientists have not only created "glow-in-the-dark" cats but also hypoallergenic cats that cost between $6,000 and $28,000.
In the year 2004 California officials banned the sale of GloFish, the world's first transgenic pet. Plenty of years ago British Scientists injected jellyfish genes into chickens and pigs to make them glow. Last year, Taiwanese scientists said they also spawned glow-in-the-dark pigs.

New Words:

1. To rage: to happen in a strong or violent way.
2. To Spawn: to cause something new, or many new things, to grow or start suddenly.
