Why is Writing important for an EFL teacher?

Why is Writing important for an EFL teacher? What is the best way to teach writing to children? to teenagers? ( provide examples and references)

...>It is important because writing helps you improve your grammar and everything you’ve learnt during your years of study.
Writing journals is a very good way of teaching children and teenagers to write. Teaching your children to write journals is largely a matter of habit. If you write in a journal, and your children see you do it, little ones will want to do the same thing. Encourage this. Some of the questions you may ask them to answer are:
* What was the best thing about today?
* What was the worst thing about today?
* What did you learn today?
* What did you eat today?, and things like that.

There is a very Interesting film that can help teachers and writing teachers realise how powerful writing is. The film is called "Freedom writers". I encourage you to watch it....you won't regret and you will learn quite a lot! it's a very enjoyable film.
